A fun invitation to reflect on the protection of marine biodiversity
The LAND PATH will take you along the quays of Port-Fréjus, through different modules. These, all linked to the preservation of the marine environment, are positioned to entertain and inform you. Port-Fréjus is an innovative, committed and fervent defender of the environment, which wishes to pass on its values to you.
Sponsored by the French polar explorer Alban Michon, the “Sentiers du Mérou” brings together two educational routes, terrestrial and underwater, enhanced with fun modules raising public awareness of the protection of the sea and the need to conserve marine biodiversity.
Fun and educational modules feed the Terrestrial trail: the street-art fresco From the depths to the surface, created by the engraving artists Brage and Nyota (formerly Kowse), under the avenue Maréchal-Leclerc bridge, the sculptures of the artist Steve Chaudanson, hopscotch, mazes…
We wish you a pleasant time on our Terrestrial Grouper Trail and also invite you to discover, with fins, mask and snorkel, our UNDER THE SEA TRAIL , positioned along the Shipyard sea wall.

THE SOUL OF PORT-FRÉJUS & MEDITERRANEAN FISH
By offering artificial “Biohut” type nurseries to fish, we have transformed Port-Fréjus into a habitat zone belonging to them to allow them to reach adulthood.
We ensure every day that their growth takes place in the best conditions by inviting our boaters to preserve the quality of the water in our port.
But faced with the crucial challenge of respecting marine biodiversity, we wanted to strengthen our commitment to the environment.
This is how the idea of creating A LAND TRAIL & AN UNDER THE SEA TRAIL was born. The objective: to explain why the preservation of our marine environment is vital.
We named these trails “Les Sentiers du Mérou” .
Thanks to these Trails, we hope to give you the keys to ensuring respect for the marine environment essential to our survival.
The path under the sea
Designed and initiated by the ECOCEAN company based on the Biohuts model (more than fifty of which are installed under the port quays), this underwater Grouper Trail complements the one installed for several years on the port quays.
It is made up of several fun modules in the shape of a crab, a jellyfish, a sea snake … all of which have a BIOHUT at their heart , to serve as habitat and protection for fish larvae in this sandy area.
Above each module hangs a signaling buoy , locating the location of the modules and explaining how the device works.
“The Underwater Grouper Trail: BIOHUT TRAIL” completes the terrestrial Grouper Trails. Unique in France, it can be visited by Snorkelling (fins, mask and snorkel) all summer!
Come learn and discover the marine life, which has already settled on the modules!
